The time had finally come. I couldn't put it off any longer. It was time to paint the interior. It was a beautiful Friday morning with a bright sun, clear sky and no wind. Frankly, it was a *perfect* day for painting. In fact, it had even rained a little the day before, so the air was crisp and clean as well.
The pot life of the paint is about 30 minutes so it was quite a production having to clean the gun after each spraying session. Mike and I teamed up and he'd clean the gun between shoots while I mixed up the next batch of paint. It took most of the day to get everything painted and textured like I wanted since I had to wait for the paint to cure between coats. I definitely got a lot of paint on and I was able to get the texturing very even. That being said, if I had to do it again, I think I would have let the texturing component of the paint do the work instead of simulating the texture by mist coating. The paint looks really good, but my texturing technique lent itself to a *very* rough, sandpaper-like surface. This was the exact same paint that is on the RV-8 and its surface is a lot smoother, yet still textured. While the coloring and appearance of the texture on the RV-6 matches that of the powder coating a lot better, I think I like the overall appearance of the RV-8 technique is better. Live and learn.
All that being said, I am still very pleased with the way the spraying came out, especially considering I had absolutely no experience spraying this kind of paint.
