The Flyer has been hold-up in Albany Oregon since November 1 2011 getting the final treatment to the interior. Luke and Jeremiah from Classic Aero have been putting the finishing touches on the upgrades, including all new wall-to-wall carpet, leather side panels and arm rests, glare shield carpet and bolster, tonneau cover over the baggage area, and a number of other updates.
The weather getting up to Albany on the first of November was pretty sketchy, but nearly a month later it was a whole lot more sketchy. I talked with Luke just before Thanksgiving and he said things were pretty much done and it would be alright to start looking at making a return trip to bring The Flyer home. I'd been watching the 10-day forecasts for a couple of weeks and the weather between Livermore and Albany had been pretty awful with mostly rain, rain, rain. The first good day looked like it was going to be Friday, November 25. I talked with Harry Crosby and we agreed to meet at his hangar about 9am and maybe give the 3-hour flight a try. But, when we got there, things weren't looking too good. Livermore was pretty much fogged in. So was pretty much the whole Sacramento Valley. In a twist of irony, North of the Oregon/California border it was completely clear! Since the days are pretty short now that Winter is coming, we had to leave Livermore no later than 10am if we wanted to have enough time to get there, have some lunch, get the plane, and then fly home before dark. We watched the various local weather reports for a while and finally decided it was just too sketchy to try it that day. Forecasts looked a lot more promising on Saturday anyway, so we agreed to give it another try the next day; same time, same place.
