Now that the first engine start was out of the way, it was time to button everything up on the inside. All of the access panels got reinstalled and the interior was ready for the new harnesses and all-leather seats that would be arriving shortly. Its totally amazing how different The Flyer looks inside now with the new paint and all-glass instrument panel. It was a lot of work, but it was totally worth it! I kind of wish that it hadn't been such a panicked-schedule, but it definitely kept me motivated.
As an aside, the reason for the accelerated schedule was that I had an appointment up in Albany Oregon to have the interior carpet and side panels done at Classic Aero. Originally, this had been scheduled for the end of August, and I thought for sure that four weeks would be plenty of time to get all of my new modifications done. Well, the end of September came and went and things were coming along nicely but no where near complete. As luck would have it, Classic Aero was actually relived that I wasn't ready as they were a little behind schedule. Another reason for the schedule acceleration was the sketchiness of the weather up in Oregon the closer to Winter it got.
Spoiler alert, it was exactly two days short of eight weeks from when I first started the deconstruction to the day I test flew. While I missed my schedule by 100%, the scope of the project grew by about 400%. Even with the extremely accelerated schedule, I feel that the project was done without compromising quality. Much like the RV-8, the methodology was "it has to be right or we're doing it over". I'm very pleased with the final product.
