Brief Description:  Dynon AHRS & Magnetometer Installation - Part 01

Dynon combines the AHRS (Attitude and Heading Reference System) and the Magnetometer (Electronic Compass) into a single unit unlike the GRT system that has separate units for each. I opted to mount the Dynon unit in the rear fuselage behind the elevator bellcrank. This has worked out well for the AHRS portion, but not so much for the Magnetometer portion. I've found that when I flip on the autopilot, since the elevator servo is so close to the Magnetometer, it cause the compass to swing about 2-3 degrees. Using the Dynon magnetometer calibration feature, the compass is pretty accurate, but its still kind of noticeable. If I had to do it over again, I would extend the Pitot and Static lines back to the tail and mount the unit under the fin similar to the way I mounted the Magnetometers in the RV-8. I think I'd get a lot more stable compass results there. AHRS might not be quite as good there, though. Frankly the AHRS is more important these days since really who uses a compass anymore with GPS so widely available.

Anyway, the installation came out nice and seems to work well except as noted.
